5 question Friday!

I'm doing the happy Friday dance! Thank God, it's not available to anyone but my kids, who happen to be staring at me like I'm a little crazy. It's OK. I probably am! ;) I've been rather productive today! Yes!

Mama: 1 Disasters beyond my control: 0

I have washed off the front porch. (It's concrete, so it makes for easy clean up!) Washed off all the outside toys. Gave the kids a bath since they were wet and covered in grass. Somebody, decided to let them wear their bathing suits so she could spray them with the water hose. AHEM.  I made a homemade apple pie. Homemade pie crust...included. Thankyouverymuch. I have supper started and dirty dishes already loaded in the dishwasher. It doesn't happen too often but today has been productive.

Tomorrow we're taking the kids to a zoo. I'm so excited to have a family day. It makes me happy! The kids are beyond excited! Maybe they won't keep them. Ha.Ha.Ha.Ha.

Ahem. Moving on!

It's been a while since I've participated in 5 Question Friday over at Mama M's so I thought I would join in the fun today! If you would like to join, go visit her, copy the questions, link up, and join in! :)

1. Did you make any fun purchases this week?

Yes, I did! I bought some new dishes! I have been wanting them for a while but they were full price, and I am anti-full price if I can help it. Then yesterday, they were half off!!! Yay! So I bought them. They have red, which is my favorite color to put in the kitchen. Why? In the words of Sweetie Pie," cause, it's pretty!" And they have chickens on them. Not all over them. The point is they're pretty, and I'll post a picture later of how pretty they really are!
2. If you could go to any musical concert, what would it be?

Hmmmm. Probably a Bon Jovi concert. I know, I know. I love them too! They maybe older but I still love to hear them sing! :)
3. What is your least fav/ most fav house chore?

In an ideal world, I would have no chore at all! But, since that's not the case, I would say my least favorite is laundry. It's so annoying. My most favorite would be grocery shopping. I guess, if that's a chore. It's nice to get out of the house and go shopping. I love shopping. Even if it's for groceries! ;)

4. Would you prefer new appliances or clothes?

New clothes. I love clothes. If shoes and handbags are included in clothes that would be perfect. Plus my appliances are only 3 years old, so they are still new!

5. Miracle Whip or Mayo?

Yuck! Neither! I'm not a fan of Mayo or Miracle Whip. I don't mind if there is a little bit in like a potato salad or something like that. But, I don't want to bite into a sandwich and taste Mayo. Gag!

That's all for today, y'all! I hope you have a great weekend!

Why do weekends go by so fast? We had a great weekend, how about y'all? I got to spend the day(Saturday) by myself, shopping. It. was. awesome. I had so much fun. Just me, time, and stores galore! It had been a llllllooooonnnnnnnnnggggggggg week. I love my kids so much. They make me smile. They make my life exciting. I enjoy being with them. But sometimes, when they all 3 argue for 30 minutes over crackers......CRACKERS!....it just gets next to my skin. So I loaded my purse up Saturday and went shopping. I didn't buy a lot but I got to browse stores that didn't even have a toy section. I am so grateful that the Mr. was off work and watched them for me. I love him. Anyway, Now that my paragraph long adoration for me time is over, I will give you a list of facts that happened the past week.
  • Fact: Our dog, Corn dog, is now living outside. I can't say I'm sad about it. Because...well, I'm not. Maybe, I wasn't patient enough I don't know, but he just would NOT use the "bathroom" outside. Nope not at all. He used my house as his "bathroom". Thanks, but no thanks! I tried everything: Walked him right after he ate, rubbed his nose in it, popped him with a newspaper, puppy pads. After 30 minutes of walking him, outside, he still came right in and pooped in my floor. I just could not take it any longer.
  • Fact: Corndog likes being outside. It's a good thing, because he's not allowed inside now. I'm happy about this. I'm not, however, happy when Dr. Destructo opens the door and lets him in anyway.
  • Fact: The stupid, annoying little rat dog, was jumping and hitting the windows all. night. last. night. He may have brain damage. I thought some one was breaking in. Not. Good.
  • Question: Are some battles even worth it?
  • Fact: My house smells like baby powder. Thanks to my son. He thought it would be fun to spread baby powder from the living room, down the hall, ending by the bathroom floor with a huge pile of powder. Sigh.
  • Fact: His sisters thought it would be fun to walk through the powder and make "paw prints".
  • Fact: I swept up a pile of baby powder and turned around and the boy was rolling in it. Like a puppy on a warm spring day would roll in grass. Sigh.
  • Plus note: The house smelled good.
  • Negative: It took me 2 days to get the powder out of the carpet and off the hardwood floor.
  • Fact: I've lived in the south my entire life, and I have never read the book Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell.
  • Fact: I didn't even know it was a book until my hubby told me. I just thought it was a movie. Bad southerner, bad!
  • Good news: I bought it Saturday at Books-a-Million! So far, it's really good. Very detailed book, which is good, because I'm a female and I like details.
  • Fact: I am getting excited about starting our Home schooling year. We start in 2 weeks.
  • Fact: I wish I would have planned to start sooner. Sweet Pea is really excited about starting and so am I!
  • Question: Why did I want to wait until after Labor Day to start?
  • Answer: I don't remember. Hmm.
  • Note to self: Maybe start school next week? Ask the hubby what he thinks.
  • Fact: I ordered over 200 photos from Snapfish last week and they should be here early this week!
  • Fact: I'm putting these pictures in albums. They may or may not be pictures from when Dr. Destructo was born. Almost 3 years ago. AHEM.
  • Fact: It's Monday, but that's OK because yesterday was Sunday and tomorrow is Tuesday and I'm making banana bread today. So it makes Monday extra special.
  • Fact: I wish we would have included a maid in our mortgage. Wouldn't that be awesome? Maid bill included with Mortgage.Pay the mortgage, get your house cleaned. It's a lot like...my...
  • Question: Wait....Am I the maid? Every time I pay the mortgage, I usually clean sometime that week, month, day.
  • Answer: If I am, I'm taking a sweet tea break and reading Gone with the Wind and I'm going to talk in an old southern accent the rest of the day. You're Welcome.

Homemade Butter...

Butter...Homemade Butter. Are there any two words more delicious in the kitchen? I think not. I love to cook. I love to bake. One of the best ingredients a baker and, sometimes even a cook, could use is butter. Yummy, creamy, melt in your mouth or on a hot roll good. So when I came across a recipe for homemade butter last weekend I just knew I had to try it! The Mr. asked, "Did you buy a churn?" No. I need but two things to make this work. Heavy cream and a food processor. No churn or a full day required. Dead women who use to churn all day, envied me. The butter turned out marvelous and delicious. I look forward to always having some on hand. Because, it's homemade, so it's gotta be good for you...right? Right! Homemade, if you can, is always the way to go in my opinion. I suggest, not that I'm anyone special but, you should try to make at least one homemade meal a week. It will forever change your life. Well, at least your wallet! Make something from scratch it's fun and you know exactly what your family is eating.

Moving On.

I have uploaded some pictures from my homemade butter experience. It was epic. If it were a movie it would win every golden globe available. The Oscars? Their mind would be blown, it would win every award available!(Have I mentioned, I don't know where my girls get being dramatic from?) If it were a movie it would look a little something like this:

This was so easy to make and took less than 10 minutes! I didn't salt the butter, you can if you want. I did use a cheese cloth to squeeze the extra buttermilk out of the butter. The Mr. used the buttermilk to make homemade biscuits the next morning. Yum! Trust me, you should try it! Here is the link for the website I found the homemade butter. Her name is Jennie and has some great recipes.(FYI: Be prepared for a tissue and maybe even say a prayer for her, she just lost her husband expectantly last week. I think I'll go give my hubby and kids a long hug.) I hope you take the time to make some butter. You will not regret it! :)

Corndog....

I should really be cleaning, but instead I'm blogging. I have dishes from yesterday(OK, fine! From Saturday night) still in my sink.....and on my counter. I really don't leave dishes to often, anymore, over night unclean. But, yesterday was Sunday and I needed to take a nap and then watch some movies. You know, be lazy on a Sunday. Plus Dr. Destructo was running a fever at church so we left early and brought him home. He was grumpy all day yesterday and today, he's like normal! No fevers or grumpiness...Thank God! Anyway, this post is about our new puppy Corn dog! He's a dachshund mix. He is so cute(except for when he pees in my floor, then I slightly wish he would jump out a window...slightly)! We took him to the Vet on Saturday and he weighed almost 10 pounds! Watch out...heavy load coming through! :)  He's a perfectly healthy puppy and is very active. Which means he fits into our home perfectly.
Trying to enjoy his food, right after I took this picture The boy pulled his tail...

See him pulling his ear! Sweet Pea thinks he's a baby!
So does Sweetie Pie! They were taking a nap! :)
How do you like that fake smile Sweetie Pie has!? :)

Do you notice how Dr. Destructo and Corn dog are laying the same way!?

This sweet picture lasted all of 10 seconds, then it was on to pulling his ears....Sigh...
Playing outside
He enjoys chasing butterfly's and running around like crazy, kinda like my kids....yes, I think he fits in nicely!

My new table....

My daddy, who is a carpenter, made my mom, my sister in law, and myself a table. Not to share, of course, but our very own table! ;) I love it so much. Sitting around the table and sharing a meal with my family is very important to the Mr. and me. We had a decent table that got the job done, but I wanted a bigger table that we could all sit around comfortably and still have the dishes on the table. I'm from the south, that's how it works here....well in my house anyway. ;) So my daddy made me a cedar table that's around 7 feet long and around 4 feet wide. I don't remember the exact measurements but trust me, it's huge.  It's comfortable to sit at and for the first time in many years, I enjoy my meal without feet on me. Yes, my kids have some sort of obsession with propping their feet on my legs while they eat. That's a little to close to my food, thankyouverymuch! I bought new place mats...actually, I've never had a real set of place mats, just a table cloth. This table is too beautiful to cover with a table cloth! I bought the cloth napkins and rings at Pier 1, on sale of course, and never used them. Now I have a beautiful table to put them on! We are going to sand our chairs and stain them to match our table....one day! Here are some pictures, and if you're interested in your own custom table, email me and I'll get you some info! (Yes, it's a plug for my daddy....No, I'm not ashamed!)

I love the design he made!
All the knots from the tree! So much character!
We have six chairs, but there is actually enough room to have 8 chairs!
I'm so proud of my table! :)

Some new things....

So we have some new things that have been going on around here. It's not major, but it is fun and important to us. After we got back from our vacation, we did some switch-a-roo with the bedrooms. All the kids have their own rooms, but 2/3rds of them needed new beds. So we got rid of Dr. Destructo's toddler bed. Yes, I was a little sad about it! He's my last little guy. Last child in a toddler bed....Sigh. But, he doesn't need Pull-Ups or diapers anymore. So that's great! This is the first time in over 5 years that I haven't had to buy diapers/Pull-ups! It's all bitter-sweet, really. Sweet Pea got a full size mattress to go with the convertible baby bed, that we used with all 3...once again a little sad! Sweetie Pie, kept the twin size bed she has because it's in good shape. Dr. Destructo, has a twin size mattress to go in his bed. We actually found his bed at an antique shop here in town. It's the bed, with drawers underneath. We got it for a whopping....are you ready?...$25!!! That was awesome! It's in great condition and we repainted it, because it was a really ugly green, now it's a nice gray and looks great in his room. We all got new bedding for our rooms. Here's some pictures! Enjoy! :)

This is my new bedding set. My walls are actually green, they don't look green however. Hmmm.
This is Sweet Pea's bed! According to her, it's totally cool! ;)
This is Sweetie Pie's. It's so pretty, not cool like sissy's! ;)
This is Dr. Destructo's! All boy, which fits his personality perfectly! :)

The Weekend

The weekend. Are there 2 words that you love more after a long week? Probably not! ;) I've been a stay at home mommy for a little over 5 years now and I still love the weekends. I get that extra set of hands from my hubby for over 48 hours straight. It's awesome. And yes, stay at home mom's work. Contrary to what some believe. I kinda feel like I have to defend myself against working moms, like they look down on me.

They probably don't.

I'm probably paranoid.

Moving on.

I love my job. I love spending time with my kids, teaching them, playing with them, or doing absolutely nothing but watching endless episodes of Phineas and Ferb. (Which, by the way, I think we need to take a break from because my boy told me yesterday, "You are SO busted, Mommy!!" Um, yeah. ) The point is, I enjoy the weekends. I think this weekend we have very little going on. That's nice, to do absolutely nothing unless you want to. We do have an early Vet appointment for our dog, Corndog.

Oh! Corndog!

I forgot to post about him. He's so cute. He's a weeny dog.  He's hyper and loving and will lick you right in the mouth if you're not careful. I'll do a post on him soon complete with pictures. (Note to self: upload pics from camera to computer and do a post on Corndog!)

Anyway, after that I think I'm going to do some baking. We're bringing refreshments to our Sunday School class on Sunday, so I'm going to do some homemade cinnamon rolls. They are awesome. I got the recipe from Ree, the Pioneer Woman. Yeah, I call her Ree. We're close like that. Well, I've read her cookbook. That makes us close, right? Yes...No? No. Ok moving on. Here's a link to her recipe.

I think I'm going to make some homemade butter after that.

That's right, the next Julia Child coming through!

Well, I don't know if she made homemade butter, but I'm sure she thought about. If she didn't I know Paula Deen would love me for it! :)

And the good part about the butter? No churn needed! Watch out! So I'll post about that after I make some. I'm so excited! And after my baking and butter making. I may sit back and not do a darn thing. I don't mind. After all, what are weekends for? Have  a great weekend!

Long time no post, Part 2..3...4?

Wow, it's been a while since I posted! Where have I been?  I don't know...I couldn't possibly be raising 3 children, and taking care of my home, could I? I was probably doing laundry and "spring cleaning" my house...yes, yes....That's what I was doing! Only aliens must have come from some unknown planet(probably called..Youhave3kidssoyour housewillprobablyneverbeclean!) and destroyed it. So much for a clean house! ;) I just looked back and it's been almost a month since I posted. Oops!  Anyway. So what's been happening? I'll put it in list form because I like list. They make me feel accomplished. Even if I didn't get anything done, hey I've made a list, I got something done.

  1. My brain was obviously still at the beach. We went on vacation and I left the most important part laying by the ocean...my brain.
  2. I am happy to report, my brain is slowly making it's way home. It must have stopped in Dothan, AL and stayed for a peanut festival. Probably.
  3. My cooking skills are slowly coming back as well. I completely forgot how to cook while on vacation. I couldn't even make a pancake...from Aunt Jemima's! It wasn't even homemade!
  4. I made some really yummy chicken and dumplings last week, as well as some homemade(thankyouverymuch) banana muffins with a brown sugar crumbly topping...what is that called? Hold on. I'll be right back.
  5. Streusel. That's what it's called. Thank you BING! Had a moment....see brain on vacation.
  6. We had a small family party for my mama's 50th birthday! It was a surprise. She knew nothing. YES! Success!
  7. My brother turned 25 last week. I gave him a gift bag with a kitten on it. The kitten was wearing a birthday hat.....BAHAHAHA! I also gave it to him before church started. Bahahaahaaa! If you knew my brother, he was having a small nervous breakdown. He said, "What is this?, Who did this? What ?" I thought it was funny. AHEM.
  8. OK, I'm back. I had to laugh at the look on his face for a minute.
  9. I had a birthday also. I turned 18. According to my daughter. She is so smart...have I told you that lately?!
  10. I really turned 28. Even though my brother said I'm 30. He lies. And carries bags with birthday kittens on them.
  11. I am blessed to be 28. I'm not where I thought I'd be when I was 18....I'm in a much better place. I love this life God has so graciously given to me. :)
  12. My love and I went on a date Saturday night. We left the kids with a babysitter. My cousin, who just so happened to be in our wedding as a flower girl. She's 14, almost 15.
  13. Now I feel old.
  14. We went to Olive Garden. It was so yummy. I brought half of it home and ate the rest the next night. Yes! More for my money! ;)
  15. I bought materials to make an Alabama wreath for my front door. I made it Sunday. It's so cute. Yes, we are that crazy about football in these parts It is totally acceptable to hang you favorite team's colors on the front door.
  16. And possibly, dress your family up in that said team's color's and take a family picture. And put it on a Christmas card. Possibly.
  17. I am so ready for football. And fall.
  18. We start school in about 4 weeks. We are homeschooling. Yes we have people who support it. Yes we have people who don't agree with us. But, we want what is best for our kids and after much prayer, we have decided at this time, this is what' s best for our family.
  19. We are excited. Anxious a little, but mostly excited.
  20. I've been watching my sweet nephew Baby E, for my brother and sis in law. He is so sweet. I also forgot how much constant attention little guys need. I don't mind, because he's just so darn cute. :)
Well, I guess that's got you caught up for the most part. We've done other stuff. I just can't  remember.
Wait, I just remembered! I went to Target a few weeks ago, and bought all, but 1, of my kids Christmas gifts for $150, and saved....are you ready.....$384!!!! Yes! Thank God! That's done. Yay for 75% off toys in July! I got there at just the right time. By the time I left, it looked like Black Friday, it was so crowded. I was so thankful for God's timing on that one! Ok, now that's all until later anyway! :) Have a blessed day!
